Angela's Ashes on audio

This past Thanksgiving my husband and I decided to visit his parents in Orange County and we debated over driving or flying. My husband was convinced that we should fly...he hates the drive down the 5. If we drove, I would be the chauffer. Little did I know that this meant him sitting in the back seat with his earphones on and lap top the entire time. Lucky him! Before leaving, I rummaged through our closet and found an old book on tape "Angela's Ashes." I knew this book was popular 5 or more years ago. Usually my mind wanders when I listen to audio books. However, the author is the voice of this audio book. Instantly, this book came to life. The 6 hour drive flew by and I found myself sitting in the driveway to my in-laws not wanting to get out of the car because I wanted to continue listening.

After the Thanksgiving break I continued listening to this book in my car on the way to work. I would look forward to my drive to and from work just so I could listen to Frank McCourt's funny life stories come to life. As a result I quickly ordered the continuing story of his life "Tis" on Amazon.

This was my top book pick of 2008!

Even though this post is so old, I'm glad that the author reading was interesting--it must have been the Irish accent. I listened to a Ray Bradbury read by the author and it was horrible.
